MATTHEW DEAR – YOU PUT A SMELL ON ME (PHOTOCALL REMIX)

Matthew Dear: Would YOU trust a man who wears leather trousers?

“I began this remix by listening to Matt’s vocals over and over again, focusing on the storyline. I imagined a slimeball character out of a Bret Easton Ellis novel, luring a young Hollywood hopeful to his Malibu compound, possibly to never return. I built the hypnotic melody around that idea. As for the toms… What can I say? I love Van Halen.”
Eli Epstein, aka Photocall

If you’ve not read Bret Easten Ellis’s The Informers, I highly recommend reading the entire novel from start to finish, floating on a large pink lilo, vacantly chewing on a Valium, with this track on repeat, occasionally, silently, mouthing a few choice words.

I WOULD LIKE…
YOU TO PUT ON…
SOMETHING NICE..
THATS SOFT AND WARM

Obviously this would work best if you/a friend/a relative is loaded and has a swimming pool in their back garden. And they don’t live in Glasgow. Or the surrounding areas. Basically we’re talking a pool which no-one’s urinated in. I presume the Gorbals Baths, for example, is likely to have a lesser effect.

IT’S A LITTLE RED GOWN…
WITH A NAME ON IT…
YOU CAN DANCE WITH ME…
JUST FOR A BIT

I am actually gutted that I finished the book unblissfully unaware of the existence of this remix.

TRY IT ON…
ITS YOUR SIZE…
GONNA DANCE…
DANCE…
ALL NIGHT

The Jaar remix is less creepy, maybe more what Photocall’s “slimeball character” would listen to whilst cruising Sunset Boulevard in a mid-morning, Valium-hued haze. If anyone can think of a suitable novel to read whilst listening to this one, let me know.
